USS Gearing was the lead ship of a United States Navy destroyer class. She was named for three generations of the Gearing family, Commander Henry Chalfant Gearing, Sr., Captain Henry Chalfant Gearing, Jr. and Lieutenant Henry Chalfant Gearing, III.

When launched, Victoria was the largest, fastest, and most heavily-armed ironclad. Three years after commissioning, she collided with HMS Camperdown and quickly sank, with the loss of 358 men.

Oliver Cromwell was the largest ship in the Connecticut State Navy from her launch on 13 Jun, 1776, until the British Royal Navy captured her in a battle off the coast of Sandy Hook, New Jersey.
