Skipper is sited at the entrance to the Death’s Door Maritime Museum. A very similar vessel, Hope, is fully restored and contained within the museum.
Skipper was built in 1945 at Sturgeon Bay Shipbuilding and Dry-Dock Company for the Weborg brothers. It’s 42’ long steel hull with an aft pilothouse and was powered by a 30-36 Khalenburg oil engine. Costing approximately $12,000, they named the boat the Skipper after their father who carried the nickname for many years (information courtesy of Door County Maritime Museum curatorial staff).
