About the Vessel
Olympia was a protected cruiser in the United States Navy, famous as the flagship of Commodore George Dewey at the Battle of Manila Bay during the Spanish–American War. She also provided patrol and escort duty during World War I.
Aside from wartime service, she undertook several peacetime cruises in the Mediterranean and Adriatic Seas and carried the remains of World War I’s Unknown Soldier from France to Washington, D.C.
Olympia is now a museum ship in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and has been restored to her 1898 configuration. She was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1966.
