About the Vessel
Lexington was the lead ship in a class of 6 which were intended to be the US Navy’s first 6 battlecruisers. She and her sister ship Saratoga were converted to aircraft carriers while still under construction. The other four were cancelled and scrapped on their building ways. This was done as part of the Washington Naval Treaty of 1922. This model shows her originally intended battlecruiser configuration.
