A lugger is a sailing vessel with a lug sail on each of its masts. The term is usually applied to vessels with at least two masts.
This type is similar to the schooner in that both are fore-and-aft rigged with two or more masts. However, the foremast of a two-masted schooner is usually smaller than the main, and this is often not the case in a lugger. Any fore-and-aft sail applies to the term schooner, but they are generally gaff or Bermuda-rigged.
