About the Vessel
Wasa was a Swedish warship completed in 1628, richly decorated and one of the most powerful of its time. However, it was very unstable and foundered after sailing about 1,300 m into its maiden voyage. She was mostly forgotten until located in the late 1950s outside Stockholm harbor, largely intact. The ship was was raised and preserved as a museum ship. The thousands of artifacts recovered have provided researchers with a bounty of information of shipbuilding techniques and daily life at that time.
