The Hampton Roads Ship Model Society was well represented as 23 of our members attended the event, with many entering their ship models. We also had the Washington Ship model Society in attendance for the first time and they brought some model to enter in the show. I estimate that there were over fifty ship models entered in all of the classes.
When the awards were handed out, it was our fellow members showed their modeling talent and skills by receiving many of the awards. In the Submarine Class, Gene Berger took second place. In the Surface Engine Powered 1:350 scale and larger it was Bob Moritz taking third place. Bill Altice won first place with his Elco PT Boat. In the Wood Constructed Class, Ulrich Guenther took third place with his Skipjack Willie Bennett. Taking first place was Bill Altice with his Yacht America. When it came time for the Best Maritime Award, it was Bill Altice winning this award for his Yacht America. The highlight of the show was the Best in Show award, which was won by Bill Altice for his Yacht America. We all should be mighty proud of our members who won awards as there was a lot of competition in all of the classes.
I would also like to mention that Marty Gromoskey took first place in an Armor Diorama class.
In addition, I have attached some pictures taken at the show.
