[Index]Upload Option 1 - From Web Browser

Browser

This is the easiest option when uploading a small number of photos.
Use this option only if the photos are already no more than 2MB and no more than 1280 pixels wide or tall or .

  1. Click On "From Web Browser" tab
  2. Click "Browse" and locate the file to be uploaded
  3. Add caption (optional)
  4. Repeat steps 1-3 for more photos, if desired
  5. Click "More Upload Boxes..." if needed, and repeat steps 1-3 for each additional box
  6. Set Options - I generally set item titles from the caption, keeping the captions short. I also normally uncheck "Summary" and "Description", which you don't usually want to be the same as the caption. All of these fields can be edited later. Finally, I leave "Create Thumbnails Now" on, but you can turn this off if you find it noticably affects your upload time.
  7. Click "Add Items"

[Index]Upload Option 2 - Upload Applet

applet

This is the easiest option when uploading a larger number of photographs.
It also allows you to upload photos larger than 1280 pixels in width or height and greater than 2MB (photos will be resized to fit these criteria during the upload process).
I have seen some erros related to image resizing in the past. If you encounter any errors, please let me know all the details so that I can investigate. In this event, you might try using GalleryRemote.

  1. Click On "Upload Applet" tab
  2. Click "Add Pictures..." and select as many photos as you'd like
  3. For each photo, you can type a caption to the right (optional)
  4. Leave "Resize pictures before upload" checked or photos larger than 2MB will fail to be transfered
  5. Click "Upload"

[Index]Upload Option 3 - Gallery Remote

This is another way to upload a larger number of photographs. It is the most powerful, and correspondingly the most complex, method of uploading photos.
Like the Upload Applet, it allows you to upload photos larger than 1280 pixels in width or height and greater than 2MB (photos will be resized to fit these criteria during the upload process). This method may succeed in some cases where the Upload Applet fails.
This option requires software to be downloaded to your machine.
It is the only option that allows you to specify caption, summary, and description when uploading. There are several other available controls, each beyond the scope of these instructions.

[Index]To Install Gallery Remote

  1. Click On "Gallery Remote" tab
  2. downloadRemote Click "Download Gallery Remote"
  3. security You'll be taken to another website where you will choose the software to download. Or, an automatic download may be initiated. Some browsers will prevent software from being automatically downloaded unless you specifically approve it. If the software is not dowloaded immediately, look for a message like this one, click on it, and approve the download.
  4. version If the download was not fully automatic, you must manually choose which software is to be downloaded. Two items are required: Java Virtual Machine (JVM) and Gallery Remote. If you know that you have JVM 1.4 or later, you can choose the much smaller "JVM not included" option. Otherwise, you must choose "JVM included". Choose the correct version for your computer. For most of you I presume it will be Windows, and for the remainder, it would most likely be Max OS X.
  5. save1 save2 Click "Save" to download the install program to you computer. In the example it is being downloaded to the desktop.
  6. find run install Locate the downloaded program and run it. Follow the instructions to install Gallery Remote.
